Bruins Fans, Are You Ready For This? NHL Insider Names Jaw-Dropping Trade Target

The Boston Bruins will have to face multiple suitors for gritty forward Trent Frederic this trade deadline. NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has reported for the second time this month that interest in Frederic is rising.

Friedman has a column called “Saturday Headlines” where he gathers his thoughts on hot topics in the NHL.

He often addresses rumors and news that is buzzing regarding trades and contracts.

Last Saturday, it was Trent Frederic who was the topic of discussion by Friedman, as the roster freeze was lifted on the 28th.

Given that Frederic is a pending UFA, with a $4.6 million cap hit, and has yet to sign a deal, is it a ridiculous idea that he could be traded in March?

Frederic is in the final season of a two-year $4.6MM contract that expires on July 1st, 2025, at which time he will become an unrestricted free agent. The teams calling on Frederic are asking if Boston intends to sign Frederic or what their thinking could be going forward.

In 38 games this season with the Bruins, he’s only scored 11 points (5 G, 6 A) and has a -13 rating on the ice.

While the drop in production is concerning, the biggest issue for Frederic has been his shooting percentage which has dropped from 14.6% to 9.3%.

This season has been a disappointment for Frederic. After a 40-point (18 G, 22 A) season in 2023-24, he’s failed to produce at the same clip.

And the Bruins have had to call up winger Fabian Lysell in order to drum-up offense that has been anemic all season long.

Given the Bruins’ circumstances, they could get assets for a quick re-tool in return for Frederic.

GM Don Sweeney will have to decide whether moving on from a forward like Frederic is good for the long-term health of the organization, or bring him along under the new direction with head coach Joe Sacco?
