The Chicago Bulls played their second game of a back-to-back slate Thursday when the Minnesota Timberwolves visited the United Center. Once again without max-contract guard Zach LaVine, the Bulls faced a tough test against a title contender. Chicago built and maintained a lead into the fourth quarter but Minnesota stormed back late to hand the Bulls a 135-119 loss.
Bulls Start Hot from 3-Point Range
The Bulls made just about every three-point attempt early on. Despite questionable defense when guarding the pick-and-roll, the Bulls gained some separation by making shots from beyond the arc. Nikola Vucevic and Patrick Williams both went 3/3 from three-point range in the opening frame.
Although it was evident the Bulls struggled against a pick-and-roll offense, the Timberwolves continued looking for offense away from the basket. Minnesota’s tactics were understandable, however, as the Bulls willingly allowed open corner-three looks.
Defense aside, the Bulls succeeded in moving the ball while not being reckless by finishing the quarter with 13 assists against two turnovers. The Bulls led 32-28 after the opening frame with Vucevic leading the way on nearly perfect shooting.
