Carson Wentz: The Next Great Comeback Story: Andy Reid’s Bold Prediction Sets the Stage For a Remarkable Comeback
The Kansas City Chiefs are on “Patrick Mahomes watch” this week as the three-time Super Bowl champion is doing all he can to overcome an ankle sprain suffered in the 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns.
While Reid stated that Patrick could have gone back into the game, now that Mahomes says his ankle has responded well to treatment, the chances of Mahomes suiting up against the Texans look good.
The Chiefs won’t take any risks with their star quarterback, though, as the playoffs start in a few weeks, so they won’t want a dinged-up Mahomes for the postseason.
But how does Reid feel about Wentz starting if he’s needed?
“Well, he’s started in the league and been successful,” Reid said as part of a bold prediction. “He’s got a great feel for this offense, very smart, big arm, I like the way he carries himself, I like everything about him. He should be starting in this league somewhere, so he’s a heck of a player.”
Let’s not forget, Wentz has 97 games of experience under his belt, has thrown 153 touchdowns to just 67 interceptions, is a Pro Bowler, and has led a team to an 11-2 record before his injury in 2017 which changed his career projection completely.
So, the Chiefs won’t be throwing a rookie into the fire, and that likely helps their decision-making process regarding how much they push Mahomes to get him healthy enough to play against Houston.
The Chiefs seem confident in Wentz’s ability to run the offense in Mahomes’ absence if he’s needed, and given how strong of a position Kansas City is in for the AFC’s No. 1 seed, if there was a time to “rest” Patrick, it’s now.
