Chiefs’ Fuel for the Three-Peat: Chiefs’ Stars Disrespected on Super Bowl LIX Opening Night, Setting Stage for Epic Revenge

Despite what many people who aim to detract from the greatness of the Kansas City Chiefs would have you believe, the team in Red & White doesn’t “get calls.”

At some point, (maybe as soon as Sunday night) people will just have to raise their hands and say, “man they really are that good.”

But for now, it appears that even credentialed media members are trying to downplay the greatness of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce…

As you can see, that kind of questioning, especially in the follow-up manner is just totally uncalled for, and honestly, makes you question the the NFL’s credentialing process.

The officiating “controversy,” if you can even call it that, has taken sports media by storm with Travis Kelce going back at the polarization when asked a question about what he wants from the media..

The truth is, the Chiefs make their own luck. They have the best HC, QB, and DC in the league, and their front office, GM, and scouting department have proven to be among the best at what they do.

But you don’t have to take my word for it, just look at what the data shows…

Ryan Heath (a data driven journalist) broke things down plainly a couple weeks ago when it came to the Chiefs’ win probability added via penalties. According to large sample data since 2023 the Chiefs aren’t even a Top 10 team in win probability added via penalties. They’re also not even a Top 25 team in EPA (expected points added) via penalties either.

In English: The penalties are not why the Chiefs are winning, and they’re not benefiting from them at a rate that is worth complaining about at all.

The prevailing narrative on here is that the refs help the Mahomes-led Chiefs more than any other team.

But they don’t even crack the top-10 in win probability added from penalties since 2023.

But, this is a pretty subjective/tough thing to analyze.

It’s gone as far as Roger Goodell having to field questions about whether or not the NFL has a script, and if part of that script includes making sure that the Chiefs three-peat…

“Well, this sort of reminds me a little bit of ‘the script,’ right? That I write a script, and I have the script for the entire season,” Goodell said with a chuckle. “Listen, you know, I think a lot of those theories, are things that happen in social media, and they get a new life. As you say, it’s not your theory, but it’s out there. Nobody wants it to be their theory. And so I understand that. I think it reflects a lot of the passion of the fans, and I think it’s also a reminder for us how important officiating is.”

So look, in the end, unless you’re a Chiefs fan or appreciate greatness, you’re cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. And that’s OK. Not everyone has to like the same team, and greatness fatigue is a real thing.

But don’t say that a player who is already the best to ever do it in the NFL is being helped by the refs.
