Coaching Carousel in Phoenix! Suns Could Make a Stunning Offseason Move to Satisfy Kevin Durant and Devin Booker Amid Rising Expectations.
It has been a terrible season thus far for the Phoenix Suns and they are expected to make some major changes in the offseason.
Of course, the Suns were expected to compete near the top of the Western Conference this season thanks to their superstar trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, but that has not been the case.
Instead, Phoenix currently finds themselves outside of the playoff picture as they sit 11th in the West standings with a disappointing 32-27 record.
Despite their poor season, the Suns do trail the injury-riddled Dallas Mavericks by just one game for the final Play-In spot in the West.
While the Suns could end up making the Play-In, it would likely be an early exit once the playoffs begin, especially with how they have played this season.
Because of their struggles this season, the Suns are expected to make some major changes in the offseason. Most of the reports have focused on them likely trading away Durant and Beal and rebuilding around Booker, but a new report suggests they could instead look to keep Durant around.
According to Hoops Wire’s Sam Amico, the Suns could fire head coach Mike Budenholzer in the offseason to appease Durant and Booker.
Of course, Durant and Booker have not gotten along well with Budenholzer this season, especially Durant who has been seen during games getting into arguments with Budenholzer during timeouts.
With the Suns struggles this season, it is already expected that they will move on from Budenholzer in the offseason as their head coach, but that may not be enough for Durant to want to stick around in Phoenix for next season and he may request a trade in the summer.
If a coaching move does entice Durant, expect Phoenix to still try to trade away Beal in the offseason, although that is easier said than done thanks to his no-trade clause.
