Colts Land a Legend: 10-Time Pro Bowler Joins Indy as Anthony Richardson’s Mentor
The Indianapolis Colts had a disappointing season in 2024. The team hoped that young quarterback Anthony Richardson would take a step forward, but instead the Florida product struggled and was benched for Joe Flacco at one point.
While Richardson is still young and seemingly has endless potential, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the team add competition at the position this offseason.
Richardson played in 11 games for the Colts in 2024 and threw for 1,814 yards with eight touchdowns to 12 interceptions. The quarterback also added 499 rushing yards and six scores on the ground. The dual-threat ability of Richardson is still intriguing, but the inaccuracy and turnovers need to be reined in.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, meanwhile, have a similar conundrum at the game’s most important position. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who both spent time as the starter in 2024, are headed for free agency and it’s far from certain that either will be brought back.
Marissa Myers of TWSN predicts the Colts will bring Wilson in to compete with Richardson if the veteran indeed leaves Pittsburgh.
Wilson played in 11 games with the Steelers in 2024 and threw for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.
The quarterback looked like his vintage self at some points, but also struggled mightily to end the season. The Steelers lost their final five games of the season, including the playoffs, and Wilson failed to throw for 300-plus yards in any of those contests.
Still, Wilson would at the very least provide a solid veteran presence for the Colts. Like Richardson, Wilson was once a quarterback who was deadly with his legs and throwing the deep ball. Worst-case scenario, Wilson mentors Richardson, while in the best case scenario, the Colts get a reliable starter for the 2025 season.
