Colts Set to Lose Key Player: Second-Round Draft Pick to Bolt for Big Free Agency Contract
Free agency is always a two-sided sword for NFL teams. While they have the chance to sign players from around the league, they also often watch players they’ve grown to love go to higher bidders.
That fact is certainly true for the Indianapolis Colts, who are expected to see multiple of their in-house free agents sign elsewhere this offseason. One of which the team is preparing to lose is the team’s 2021 second-round pick, Dayo Odeyingbo.
Colts are not expecting to retain Dayo Odeyingbo in free agency
The Colts drafted Dayo Odeyingbo in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In his four seasons with the team, he has recorded 16.5 sacks, 46 quarterback hits, and 106 total tackles. Odeyingbo has been a fan favorite in Indianpolis for quite some time and a player the team has seen grow as a player every year in the NFL now they will likely have to see him play his best football elsewhere, with him set to become a free agent at noon EST today when the league’s legal tampering period begins.
While the Colts would have loved to retain Dayo, one source shared that he is expected to receive roughly $18 million annually on the open market, and with other needs to address, the team won’t be able to compete at that price. Some teams expected to have significant interest in Odeyingbo are the Green Bay Packers, Washington Commanders, and the San Francisco 49ers, along with others expected to be in on the 25-year-old edge rusher.
