Cowboys Controversy: Trevon Diggs Speaks Out on Viral…
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs instantly made headlines on Sunday night following the loss to San Francisco, confronting a reporter outside the locker room. Diggs was not a fan of a tweet sent out by WFAA’s Mike Leslie, questioning him during a play where George Kittle made a huge reception.
On Monday, Diggs opened up about the moment, believing Leslie was using him for “clicks.” Walking back to the locker room meant Diggs saw the reporter waiting to be let in and after seeing the tweet, chose to address it right away.
“I just felt like it was unnecessary,” Diggs said. “I just felt like he was trying to use my name for clicks. After the game, I just happened to see it. I looked, clicked on it, seen who it was, and was like ‘Oh, he’s right here.’ I just saw you. So, I went up to him and spoke how I felt.”
Diggs began the play covering 49ers wide receiver Chris Conley on the play before turning around and seeing Kittle running down the field. Eventually, Kittle was pushed out inside the five-yard line by Diggs and safety Malik Hooker. Leslie says he was calling out Diggs’ effort once moving off Conley and trying to stop Kittle.
Following the game, Diggs came out of the locker room and told Leslie he doesn’t “Know football” if Diggs was his biggest takeaway from the play. He left after saying “Talk about deez nuts” and went back into the locker room.
Diggs admitted emotions got the best of him but was still not a fan of the tweet.
“Felt a lot of emotions,” Diggs said. “Just losing, coming out of the game, fresh off the loss. But I’m a competitor so you know I wanted to win. Just a lot of emotions and I kind of let my emotions get the best of me. At the end of the day, it doesn’t make it right to be saying anything or trying to throw dirt on your name or make it seem like you’re doing a bad job.”
