Cowboys Prepare to Shatter Records: Dallas Set to Make Micah Parsons the Highest-Paid Player in Franchise History
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a disappointing year, in which they went just 7-10, finished third in the NFC East and missed out on the playoffs.
One big question that looms over the organization heading into 2025 is whether or not they will get an extension done with EDGE Micah Parsons, who will be playing under the fifth-year option and making $24 million.
Ben Solak of ESPN predicts that it will happen before next season begins and that it will make NFL history.
“Despite some public consternation between edge rusher Micah Parsons and the Cowboys’ brass, an extension will get done this offseason, and it’ll be the biggest one a defensive player has ever seen,” he wrote .”Nick Bosa got $170 million over five years; Parsons will get $175 million over the same length.”
If this prediction did become a reality, then he and Bosa would form an exclusive club as the only two defenders to sign a contract with a total value of at least $170 million . The next closest is Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones at $158.75 million.
It’s, of course, a hefty price tag, but it could prove to be worth it as Parsons has been one of the most effective pass rushers since entering the league in 2021.
Since then, he’s appeared in 63 games, accumulating 256 tackles, 52.5 sacks, 63 tackles for loss, 112 quarterback hits, nine forced fumbles, and 177 quarterback pressures
Parson’s personal accolades are also impressive, being named to four Pro Bowls, First-team All-Pro twice and took home Defensive Rookie of the Year.
