Davis Speaks Out! Anthony Davis Breaks Silence on Dallas Mavericks Debut Amid Luka Doncic Fallout
Anthony Davis has been speaking for the first time since his Dallas Mavericks debut.
The grand debut for Anthony Davis did not go as the Dallas Mavericks planned. Back on February 8, all eyes were on the Mavericks’ new star when they took on the Houston Rockets.
Despite fans being upset outside the arena, fans inside were electrified by Anthony Davis’ powerful performance. For around three quarters.
Davis scored 26 points in 31 minutes, before going down with an injury. He has been out ever since.
The Mavericks are continuing to assess Davis, with a view to him still potentially making a return this season.
Anthony Davis speaks out
Anthony Davis was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, with Luka Doncic sent to the LA Lakers. Davis’ injury has meant the NBA world has since had a very one-sided view of the trade. A subsequent injury to Kyrie Irving has made it look somewhat disastrous.
The Mavericks have now released a new video, perhaps to inject some positivity, and just a reminder that they may have one huge star looking to make a return.
Davis was speaking about his debut, admitting he was nervous beforehand, amid a whirlwind few days. Once he got on the court, he started to enjoy himself.
“I just fed off the energy of the crowd, and it was something special,” he explained.
After one of Davis’ early buckets, he celebrated with a big gesture to fans, appearing to say ‘I’m here’.
Davis was asked about his actions and choice of words, and acknowledged the disappointment being felt in the fanbase by Luka Doncic’s exit.
He explained, while fighting his own corner: “I know the whole the city was down because of the Luka thing.
“At the same time, you know, I know who I am as a player. I’m top 75 of all time, and I just want to let the Dallas fans like, ‘hey, I got you, I’m here now.’
“So, like, I know you lost a,superstar Luka, but you also gain a superstar myself.”
Anthony Davis loved what the Mavericks showed
While it was just for a brief period, Anthony Davis loved what the Mavericks were able to put together on the court.
He added: “Put me alongside these guys. We saw what we can do, we had 18 blocks, unheard of. I don’t think I ever seen that in the game ever.
“So the excitement, just from that, you know I think you bring a little bit of hope and faith to Mavs fans and have trust in us again.”
While the Mavericks released the video on March 7, it is unclear whether it was recorded before or after the Kyrie Irving injury.
But based on his comments, this is a player who is excited to return to the court, and unlikely to be keen to be ‘shut down’ so the team can tank for the season.
