Mikel Merino reveals his favourite Arsenal player of all time and it’s no surprise to anyone

Arsenal have finally completed the signing of Mikel Merino.

The Gunners had been locked in talks with Real Sociedad for well over a month, and it took a lot of effort from everyone involved to get the deal over the line.

Arsenal announced the signing of Merino on Tuesday, and the Spanish midfielder has been receiving a lot of love from Gooners online.

Now, Merino has answered a few interesting questions for Arsenal fans.

Thierry Henry is arguably the greatest player to play for Arsenal in the history of the club.

The legendary Frenchman is the Gunners’ record goalscorer, and he was a nightmare for almost every defender who came up against him.

Many Arsenal fans growing up during the time when Henry was at the club absolutely adored him, he made them love the club even more.

We’re sure there are many players in the Arsenal first-team now who have Henry on top of the list of players they loved when they were young.

Now, Merino has joined the list.

In a quickfire interview with Arsenal’s social channels, the Spaniard was asked a variety of questions about himself.

One of them was about his favourite Arsenal player of all time, and he quickly replied: “Thierry Henry!” That cannot be a surprise to anyone.

Merino reveals how his Arsenal childhood dream came true

Many players in England and abroad have huge admiration for Arsenal, and Merino is one of them – not just now but since he was a kid.

After signing for the Gunners, the Euro 2024 winner recreated a couple of pictures from his childhood on his Instagram where he was wearing an Arsenal kit. He captioned the images by saying: “Always a Gooner!”

Merino revealed that it was a gift from his parents when he was very young – 20 years ago. He wore the famous red and white and dreamt of playing for a club as big as Arsenal one day.

That has now come true!

“One holiday my parents came home and gifted me a full Arsenal kit,” he said. I remember being all over the moon and wanting to take pictures as if I were a professional! I was there like the boss of the players!

“It’s funny how right now I’m achieving a dream of playing in a huge club and how life works, from those pictures from 20 years ago.”
