Devers Speaks Out! Boston Red Sox Star Reveals True Feelings on Positional Drama
The Boston Red Sox have had no shortage of news in the past month, especially after locking down Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million contract.
There has been an outcry following the signing regarding where he will play. Boston’s third-baseman of the last eight years Rafael Devers was adamant about staying at third base despite having much worse defensive stats than Bregman.
Speaking with Red Sox reporter Chris Cotillo, Devers opened up a little bit about the situation:
“I really don’t know why this is becoming such a big story,” said Devers. We’re a team. We communicate with each other. The most important thing is that we win. That’s where I stand.”
It has become such a big story because some think Devers’ unwillingness to move to DH, where everyone knows he will be highly productive, could potentially hurt the team when they are in the field.
The Red Sox have not made any final decisions on where Bregman or Devers will play, but it seems like they will likely play it by ear, start Devers at third, see how he handles it for the first month or so, and then make a more solidified decision from there.
Devers has worked hard this offseason on his defense and has made it clear he does not want to move off from the position. The good news for Boston is despite the outside noise/drama, they are still building great chemistry within the clubhouse ahead of a 2025 season filled with playoff expectations.
