Dodgers Sign Superstar: Two-Time Cy Young Winner Get $182M Contract
The Los Angeles Dodgers may have won the World Series in 2024, but they are keeping their foot on the gas. They are signing one of the best pitchers in baseball.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that the Dodgers are signing Blake Snell to a five-year, $185 million deal in a free-agency blockbuster. Snell also posted a picture of him in a Dodgers jersey on his Instagram.
“Left-hander Blake Snell and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a five-year, $182 million contract, pending physical, sources tell me and (Jorge Castillo). The World Series champions get the two-time Cy Young winner in the first nine-figure deal of the winter,” Passan wrote on X.
Snell is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and has an All-Star selection as well. He signed with the San Francisco Giants late in free agency last offseason.
He started 2024 off poorly. He held a 6.31 ERA going into the All-Star break. He kicked things back into gear and looked like himself in the second half. In his final 12 games, he had a 1.45 ERA. He also struck out 103 batters.
Snell now joins a rotation that will feature Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani.
The Dodgers’ biggest weakness in their championship season was the health of their pitching staff. They won the World Series regardless. It will take some serious bad injury luck for them to suffer from that again in 2025.
Adding Snell to the mix gives the Dodgers one of the best rotations in Major League Baseball.
