Draft Day Deal That Could Change the League: Rams and AFC Contender Engage in High-Stakes Negotiations
As the NFL prepares for the biggest game of the season, football media, past players and reporters have gathered in New Orleans to enjoy the Super Bowl festivities. The week is spent preparing for the big game as well as reflecting on the season as a whole. NFL Insider Jay Glazer shared a story that happened back around the NFL draft between Rams head coach Sean McVay and Broncos head coach Sean Payton.
According to Glazer , Payton was convinced that the Los Angeles Rams were going to trade up in the draft in order to get their hands on quarterback Bo Nix, whom the Broncos were targeting with the 12th overall selection. In order to find out the truth, Payton reached out to Glazer to try to find out the truth.
Glazer, who had no information that McVay and the Rams were interested in trading up, kept receiving calls from Payton about the situation. “He kept calling me, and somebody gave him some bad information that the Rams were trying to trade up for Bo Nix,” Glazer said while recounting the story.
It got to the point, according to Glazer, to where he felt the need to reach out to McVay and the Rams and ask them if he could tell Payton that they weren’t looking for a quarterback in the draft. “Can I let Sean Payton know that you’re not trading up, because this dude ain’t gonna sleep for five more days, and he’s driving me crazy,” Glazer said about his call to the Broncos.
Things turned out rather well for both teams in the end, as both secured postseason berths and have bright futures centered around their 2025 first round picks, Jared Verse for the Rams and, of course, Nix for the Broncos.
