Fifth Ring Fever: Stephen Curry’s Relentless Pursuit of Fifth NBA Championship

In his 16th season in the NBA, Stephen Curry is still focused on contending and potentially winning his fifth title. Curry sits at four championships with the Golden State Warriors. However, he’s not content with settling for four rings and wants to add another before his career comes to an end.

Curry’s resume can already pass in the Hall of Fame. The Warriors star has collected two regular-season MVPs, an All-Star Game MVP, a Finals MVP and multiple All-Star selections. Even with a decorated career, the league’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made still longs for another trophy.

In an interview with NBC Sports Bay Area’s “Dubs Talk” on Wednesday, Curry spoke about being focused on trying to win his fifth championship.

“Honestly, it’s the only thing I’m really playing for at this point,” Curry said. “It’s the only thing that matters in the sense of accomplishment.”

For Curry and the squad, winning a championship this season would mean something different. It could be the first title they win without his fellow Splash Brother, Klay Thompson. Over the summer, Thompson left Golden State to join the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million deal.

“The league has changed so much, and trying to reimagine how it would look for the Golden State Warriors in the 24-25 season to win a championship is totally different than even ’22. It’s totally different than ’17 or ’18 or ’15.”

Winning a fifth championship could put him with legends like Tim Duncan, Magid Johnson and the late Kobe Bryant.

“All that goes into the obsession of trying to be the best basketball player that I can be,” Curry added. “And trying to lift my team up and have them lift me up to be able to be relevant in that conversation. And then, obviously, in the historical realm of basketball, there is another level. You talk about five-time champions and beyond that. It’s a good place to start from, but I definitely want to get greedy.”

Stephen Curry has played ten games this season, averaging 23.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists, leading the team to an 11-3 record.
