Gold Glove Streak: Happ’s Defensive Dominance Earns Third Straight Gold Glove
In what’s becoming clockwork, Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ won his third straight Gold Glove Award. Happ beat out Arizona’s Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Philadelphia’s Brandon Marsh to earn the 2024 honors among National League left fielders.
In 2024, Happ led all National League left fielders in innings, defensive runs saved, GFP/DME, and putouts. He also led all outfielders with 11 assists.
Happ’s latest honor put him in a class of his own as he became the first Cubs outfielder to win three Gold Glove Awards. He also became just the fifth Cubs position player to win at least three straight awards, joining Mark Grace, Anthony Rizzo, Ryne Sandberg, and Ron Santo.
The Cubs had one other 2024 Gold Glove finalist , Dansby Swanson, who missed out on his third straight award as Colorado’s Ezequiel Tovar took home the honors among National League shortstops.
