Dodgers minor league infielder/outfielder Jose Hernandez last week was suspended without for the entire 2025 Arizona Complex League season after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Hernandez tested positive for both Boldenone and Nandrolone, Major League Baseball announced on November 27. The full-season suspension is effectively a 60-game ban for Hernandez, who hit .302/.394/.512 with four home runs in 26 games this year in the Arizona Complex League. He played first base, third base, second base, right field, and left field in 2024. Signed out of Venezuela in 2019, Hernandez will turn 22 in April.
He’s the fifth minor league player suspended by MLB this offseason. Red Sox outfielder Raphy Gil and Guardians pitcher Abrahan Tejada were each suspended 56 games in the Dominican Summer League on November 21 after testing positive for Stanozolol. Free agent pitchers Alejandro Crisostomo (Boldenone and Nandrolone) and Luis Moreno (Nandrolone) each were suspended for 80 games on November 22.
Hernandez is the seventh player to be suspended in this calendar year for a positive Boldenone test, including Reds major league infielder Noelvi Marte, who got 80 games in March. Crisostomo and Padres minor league pitcher Ibrahym Jimenez are the only other players to be suspended in 2024 for Nandrolone, with Jimenez getting 56 games in July.
Hernandez is the first Dodgers player suspended under the league’s drug prevention and treatment program since 2022, when outfielder Geremias Valencia was suspended for 60 games that June, just before the start of the Dominican Summer League season. Valencia was released that October and has not played in the minor leagues since.
