History in the Making: Saquon Barkley’s NFC Performance Could Cement His Legacy
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has a chance to make more NFL history when he returns to the field on Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
The NFL highlighted as much while teasing the NFC Championship game between the two teams. In a post on Instagram, the league noted how Barkley already has 2,329 rushing yards, including playoffs, this season.
That means Barkley needs just 148 rushing yards to surpass Terrell Davis’ all-time record of 2,476 rushing yards in a season that includes the playoffs. The Denver Broncos legend achieved the feat in 1998.
Barkley is at No. 3 on the list heading into the NFC championship, with Davis also owning the No. 2 spot with 2,331 rushing yards set in 1997.
Saquon Barkley is certainly more than capable of setting a new rushing yards record in a season in the NFC championship. So far this postseason, he’s averaging 162 rushing yards per game.
In the wild card round against the Green Bay Packers, he rushed for 119 yards. Then, in the divisional round against the Los Angeles Rams, he tallied 205 yards on the ground.
Interestingly, in the two regular season games the Eagles played against the Commanders, Barkley averaged 148 rushing yards.
It remains to be seen if Barkley will actually be able to set a new record on Sunday, but it will certainly be tough to bet against him.
