Huge Blow: David Montgomery’s Injury: A Crushing Blow to the Team: Jahmyr Gibbs Shares Emotional Response

On Sunday, the Detroit Lions lost their second game of the year to the Buffalo Bills after a shootout that ended with a score of 48-42.

Monday morning, the sting of that loss only worsened after it was announced that running back Davis Montgomery would be out indefinitely with an MCL injury. Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed season-ending surgery.

Of course, this is a huge blow for the entire team, but especially fellow running back Jahmy Gibbs. He and Montgomery had earned the nicknames “Sonic” and “Knuckles” because of their close bond.

After the news of the surgery went public, Gibbs went to Instagram to post a photo of the two with a broken heart emoji.

Without Gibbs and Montgomery producing week in and week out for the Lions, the team simply wouldn’t be where they are now.

The duo has been the driving factor in giving Detriot the fifth-most rushing yards (2,012), eighth-highest yards per carry (4,7), fourth-most rushing touchdowns (17) and fourth-most rushing first downs (118) in the NFL.

Without another snap to play this season, Montgomery will end with 775 rushing yards, 12 touchdowns, 4.2 yards per carry, 36 receptions and 341 receiving yards.

The next man up on the depth chart is Craig Reynold, who has just 566 rushing yards and 1 touchdown in six years.
