Jaylon Johnson’s Bold Request: He Can’t Wait to Face Justin Jefferson
Johnson attacked playing the cornerback position the way you would expect the best of the best to do so. Jaylon Johnson plays the position fearlessly with heart, hustle, and a little bit of smack talk. And that makes sense when you think about what it takes to be one of the league’s best corners. The NFL’s best cornerbacks have equal parts skill, delusion, a short memory, and an uncanny ability to remember every slight made against them — no matter how obscure. It is fascinating, to say the least.
So, of course, I found it interesting that Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson is looking forward to welcoming the challenge of squaring off against Minnesota Vikings all-world wide receiver Justin Jefferson in Week 12.
This is what Johnson had to say about the matchup via the Chicago Tribune:
“I don’t feel like he has a weakness,” Johnson said. “They’re going to try to get him the ball, so we have to be prepared to limit his production as best we can.
“I’m excited. I love playing against high-level guys like him. Just excited to go against their offense. Explosive offense. … I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Excited is hardly the word I’d use. But then again, I’m not the one who has to cover Justin Jefferson. Even still … I admire Jaylon Johnson’s fearlessness here as he amps up for another home game at Soldier Field against an NFC North foe. And yet, there is a part of me that can’t stop thinking be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.
