Jimmy Butler’s Shocking Confession: Why He’s Not Worried About Scoring Slump

The Golden State Warriors have been on a roll since acquiring Jimmy Butler in a deal with the Miami Heat ahead of the trade deadline. However, since joining his new team, Butler’s scoring numbers have dropped, leading to a stark remark from the All-Star caliber forward when asked about his role with the Warriors.

Since acquiring Butler, Golden State has won 14 of their past 16 games, and one of those losses came in a game Butler did not dress for. This is good news for the team’s newest star, because he made it clear after he arrived in California that his only goal was to go out and win games.

“When I walked in, I was like, ‘Yo, look man, I’m only here to win,’” Butler said in an interview with Andscape. “’I don’t care about nothing else. I don’t care about points. I don’t care about shots. I don’t care about none of that. I’m only here to win and I’ve always only been places to win. So, whatever y’all need me to do, y’all let me know.’”

During this time, though, Butler’s scoring numbers have taken a stark drop, as his 16.4 points per game in his first 15 contests with the Warriors represents the lowest average since the third year of his career. Butler isn’t concerned about his scoring dip, though, saying that he knows he can find the bottom of the bucket when he has to.

“We’re winning, so I don’t care about nothing else,” Butler said after the Warriors’ latest win over the New York Knicks. “I’m not just a scorer, I can score whenever I want to … When it’s my time, you’ll know that it’s my time. Until then, I’m gonna pass the ball to the open man, get my guys some jumpers, get them out in transition, and we gonna keep winning.

Butler’s assist numbers have jumped up since joining the Warriors, as he’s averaging 5.9 dimes per game. Golden State will look to win their eighth straight game when they take on the Denver Nuggets on Monday night.
