Joe Milton’s Time to Shine: Patriots Rookie QB Prepares for Potential Debut vs. Bills
The New England Patriots‘ disappointing season is scheduled to continue against the Buffalo Bills and star quarterback Josh Allen this weekend at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts at 1 p.m. ET.
The week 18 clash between the Patriots and Bills could include the season debut of rookie Joe Milton, the ex-Tennessee and Michigan quarterback who was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft.
Milton has reportedly taken some reps with the Patriots’ first team offense according to offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt in his Thursday news conference.
The reps came amid fellow rookie Drake Maye’s right hand injury, which limited him in Wednesday’s practice.
Jacoby Brissett has been the team’s backup since Maye took over, but that could change in light of the Milton news.
Milton is known for having one of the strongest arms in all of football, although his accuracy needs work. He completed 11-of-30 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown during the preseason and also rushed for 54 yards on 11 carries.
Milton has mostly played on the scout team this season.
The Patriots will secure the number one overall pick in April’s NFL draft should they lose to the Bills at home on Sunday.
