Five Free Agents Who Could Still Be Fits for the Eagles

The Eagles have already made several signings in free agency, but under general manager Howie Roseman, roster construction is a year-round process. As Roseman often emphasizes, talent acquisition doesn’t stop until the trade deadline.

With a few weeks of free agency behind us, there are still quality players available. Here are five free agents who could be a good fit for Philadelphia:

S Justin Simmons

At 31 years old, Simmons’ Pro Bowl and All-Pro days may be behind him, but he remains a reliable starter. He played all 16 games for Atlanta last season and performed at a solid level. Given that the Eagles hired Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator, a reunion with Simmons—who previously played in Fangio’s system in Denver—seems plausible.

However, Philadelphia hasn’t aggressively pursued Fangio’s former players, so it’s unclear if his past connections with the coach and defensive backs coach Christian Parker will influence a potential signing. Simmons has expressed interest in reuniting, and with the Eagles trading C.J. Gardner-Johnson, they have a clear need at safety.

Last offseason, Simmons didn’t sign with the Falcons until August, suggesting he may wait until after the draft to pick his next destination. That could work in the Eagles’ favor, as post-draft signings don’t impact the compensatory pick formula—a strategy they’ve utilized before.

S Julian Blackmon

The Eagles have a clear need at safety, and Blackmon is one of the top options still available. At just 26 years old, he’s younger than Simmons but could command a higher price tag. However, with most teams having already spent big in free agency, his market might be more reasonable.

Blackmon was drafted by the Colts in 2020 while Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was still in Indianapolis. Over five seasons, he’s played in 66 games (62 starts) and recorded 10 interceptions—seven of which have come in the last two seasons. If the Eagles want a younger, playmaking safety, Blackmon could be an intriguing option.

DL Calais Campbell

The Eagles have emphasized youth this offseason, but adding an experienced veteran like Campbell would be an exception to that trend. The 38-year-old defensive lineman has played 17 NFL seasons, yet he remains productive, tallying 11.5 sacks over the past two years.

Campbell has played every game in the last two seasons, proving his durability, and his one-year, $2 million deal with Miami in 2024 suggests he wouldn’t break the bank. He would provide depth alongside Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo. If Campbell wants to chase a Super Bowl, joining the defending champs could be an appealing option.

LB Kyzir White

Philadelphia’s biggest linebacker move this offseason was re-signing Zack Baun to a three-year, $51 million deal. However, they also lost Oren Burks in free agency, and Nakobe Dean is still recovering from a torn patellar tendon. With rookie Jeremiah Trotter Jr. potentially stepping into a starting role, the Eagles may feel comfortable with their current group—but bringing back a familiar face in White could be a smart depth move.

White played for the Eagles in 2022 before following Jonathan Gannon and Nick Rallis to Arizona, where he started for the Cardinals over the past two seasons. It’s unclear why Arizona hasn’t re-signed the 29-years-old, but the longer he remains available, the more likely it is that he moves on. While he may currently be out of the Eagles’ price range, he’s worth monitoring.

OT Jedrick Wills

The Eagles recently signed veteran Kendall Lamm to replace Fred Johnson as their swing tackle, but Lamm is coming off back surgery. That leaves the door open for additional reinforcements, and Wills could be an intriguing low-risk option.

At just 25 years old, Wills was the 10th overall pick in the 2020 draft and has started 57 games for the Browns. While his time in Cleveland ended on a sour note, he hasn’t been a complete bust. With offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland’s proven ability to develop talent, Wills could be a worthwhile project.

Philadelphia already has one developmental piece in Kenyon Green, but adding another potential reclamation project could be a savvy move.
