Kyrie Irving suffered an injury nine minutes into the Dallas Mavericks ‘ game with the Sacramento Kings. The superstar went down with a non-contact knee injury in the first quarter.

The Mavericks lost the game to the Sacramento Kings 98-122, falling to 32-30 for the season.

Speaking after the game, head coach Jason Kidd admitted the team was affected by Irving’s injury, commenting: “Seeing Kyrie in the locker room, took some wind out of their sails.”

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was asked about Kyrie Irving’s injury during his post-game press conference.

He bemoaned the team’s injury fortune, which extended early in the season when Luka Doncic was part of the team.

Kidd said: “Just unlucky. Hope that’s he’s healthy, and it’s not serious.

“The injuries we’ve had this season, the guys are trying to hold it together, get bodies back, and it seems just as we’re close to getting someone back, someone goes down.

“We’re running out of bodies here, but we keep fighting.”

Injury doctor Evan Jeffries says the best case scenario for Kyrie Irving is a knee hyperextension, with a worst case being an ACL tear.

The Mavericks are in 10th place, while four wins ahead of the Suns in 11th, they will need to go through the Play-In to reach the playoffs.

LeBron James played alongside Kyrie Irving with the Cleveland Cavaliers, winning the title in 2016. He sent a message in reaction to the star’s injury, offering his prayers.

Former teammate Luka Doncic, who was controversially traded by the Mavericks to the LA Lakers, posted on Instagram stories.

Doncic posted tearful and prayer emojis alongside a picture of Kyrie Irving from the game.

The Dallas Mavericks are next in action against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 5.
