Kirk Cousins Does it Again: Falcons MVP for Week 9
I don’t want to overlook Kaden Elliss, who had a resurgent game and got the game ball from Raheem Morris, and I certainly don’t want to downplay what Bijan Robinson did as the centerpiece of this game plan. Both were terrific, and both are deserving enough of the game’s most valuable player for the Atlanta Falcons.
But that award is heading to Kirk Cousins again, and for good reason. Aside from a fumble on a play where he was completely blindsided thanks to a pass protection error and fumbled, Cousins played a nearly flawless game. He did so without Drake London, who exited the game and did not return after his early touchdown grab, and he did so while missing on just five of the 24 passes he threw. A tidy 222 yards and three touchdowns, all three of them well-placed throws, meant this offense went humming along to a win.
This all runs so well for a variety of reasons, but on a day without London and with Kyle Pitts having a quiet afternoon, Cousins needed to operate at a very high level alongside Robinson to keep this thing moving. The fact that he did so for a second straight week, a stretch where he’s thrown seven touchdowns and not one interception, means he’s deserving of the most valuable nod for this week. Atlanta’s very real defensive weaknesses mean they’re playing in a lot of close games, and a quarterback who can run this offense well enough to consistently score close to or more than 30 points and largely avoid turnovers is a massive boon for these Falcons.
