£60m star left out of matchday squad as Arsenal join the race to sign him on deadline day

Mikel Arteta has just over 24 hours left to get a couple of deals over the line at Arsenal as the summer transfer window deadline closes in.

Arsenal have some business to do after Mikel Arteta waved goodbye to Aaron Ramsdale, as he joins Southampton.

Riccardo Calafiori isn’t the only player to have joined this summer as Mikel Merino is the newest signing at Arsenal after putting pen to paper earlier on this week.

But, Arteta doesn’t seem satisfied with his current squad as Arsenal in the market for another forward before the end of play on Friday evening.

Interestingly, the Gunners appear to be working on a move for Kingsley Coman with a potential deal being explored.

Arsenal are now set to make a late push for Ivan Toney in what would be a spectacular move for the north London club.

And, they’ve been given a further boost after hearing news that Ivan Toney, who is worth £60 million, has been left out of the Brentford squad for their clash with Southampton.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that he’s joining Arsenal as Al-Ahli and Chelsea are two other potential suitors.

How does Ivan Toney compare to Kai Havertz?

Kai Havertz has been transformed into a false 9 since joining Arsenal from Chelsea. The German bagged a very respectable 14 goals and seven assists last season, and is already on one goal and one assist from the opening two games in the current campaign.

However, after missing out on the Premier League title last season, one thing that many people feel is the difference between Manchester City and Arsenal is the fact that the champions have a ruthless goalscorer in the form of Erling Haaland, which is where Ivan Toney could come in.

The Brentford striker managed just four goals last season due to serving a ban for gambling, but the season before he really made a name for himself with 21 goals and five assists in just 35 games.

There’s no doubting that Toney has the potential to score more goals than Havertz at the pinnacle of Arsenal’s attack, but he may cause a complete switch of tactic for Arteta which is something he might not be too keen on with things going swimmingly at the moment.
