Arsenal lost a few very talented young players in the summer of 2024.

The Gunners have been doing a great job with the first team in recent years. They have challenged for the Premier League title in each of the last two seasons and are in the mix again this time around.

The first team is brilliant, but Arsenal’s Academy has been producing quite a few incredible young players in recent years as well.

But, the likes of Chido Obi-Martin, Reuell Walters and Amario Cozier-Duberry all left the club in the summer, and there’s now a chance that another youngster could follow them out of the door.

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has been at Arsenal since he was just eight years of age.

The now-21-year-old has played across different age groups for the club’s academy and is a regular for the U21s now. He has even captained them on a few occasions this season.

Butler-Oyedeji is a very impressive attacker. He can play through the middle as well as out wide and has five goals and two assists in seven appearances this season.

That helped Butler-Oyedeji win the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award in September.

He is a fine talent, and Fussball Transfers have now claimed that Borussia Monchengladbach are very keen to sign him in 2025.

It has been revealed that the Bundesliga side have already started ‘concrete negotiations’ with Butler-Oyedeji over a move to Germany in the next window.

Gladbach are said to have promised him a guaranteed role in the club’s first team, which is something Arsenal are in no position to do right now.

That is the reason why Butler-Oyedeji is ‘interested’ in a switch to Gladbach, claims the report.

Arsenal are losing millions because of terrible academy strategy

Arsenal are one of the best teams in world football, so the pathway to the senior side is not as straightforward as it is at most other clubs.

That’s why youngsters like Obi-Martin, Cozier-Duberry and Walters all moved on, and there was not a lot the Gunners could’ve done to stop them from leaving.

However, the one thing Arsenal should’ve done is made them much more valuable than they were at the time of their departure – they could’ve achieved that by sending them on loan to the right clubs beforehand.

Arsenal have not been doing that, and that has cost them millions. They are letting incredible young players leave for almost nothing, which is not good business at all.

Edu Gaspar and Per Mertesacker have to change their strategy and make sure that Arsenal remain in a position to profit significantly if their young talents decide to leave.
