Arsenal fans aim sly dig at Phil Foden after what ‘underrated’ Declan Rice just did

Declan Rice has been starring for England in this international break.

After the Three Lions’ dismal defeat against Greece, Lee Carsley’s side bounced back with a win over Finland last night, with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice getting on the scoresheet.

Rice is an integral figure for club and country, and now has 62 England caps to his name, having made his debut back in 2019, having previously played three times for the Republic of Ireland before switching allegiance.

Rice has now scored 5 goals for England too, taking his tally beyond the figure of 4 that has been achieved by Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, who have amassed 43 and 39 caps each, respectively.

Arsenal fans hail Declan Rice after England beat Finland

In the wake of Rice’s display against Finland, plenty of Arsenal fans on X were quick to praise the midfielder.

One said: “Declan Rice is him….nobody like him…”

Another stated: “Declan Rice is underrated.”

One Arsenal fan couldn’t resist a dig at Foden, chipping in with: “Declan Rice playing as a DM has more goals for England than attacking midfielder, No.10, false 9, Phil Invisible Foden!”

Another added: ““Sideway passer” Declan Rice has more goals for England than “Stockport Messi””

Rice’s importance to Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta is hugely reliant upon Rice, who plays a vital function in the middle of the park for Arsenal.

Arteta has encouraged Rice to take up a more advanced role since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, and as he has now proven at international level too, he is a player capable of making an impact at both ends of the pitch.

However, Arsenal need Rice to prove his defensive credentials this season, as if they are to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title then the Gunners will need the England star to replicate Rodri’s role for the reigning champions.
