Arsenal fans all have a lot to say about Riccardo Calafiori after his wonder goal vs Man City

Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal players are probably equally as proud as they are disappointed following their 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad.

Arsenal had the three points in their grasp after defending remarkably for 45 minutes, a plan hatched by Arteta at half-time.

But eventually the Gunners succumbed to the City pressure, unable to clinch three points after Leandro Trossard’s red card.

Roy Keane shared his verdict on Trossard’s red – an avoidable moment that the experienced Belgian will be disappointed with.

That being said, there were still one or two moments to celebrate from an Arsenal point of view, including Riccardo Calafiori’s first goal and mesmeric strike from the left.

Ben White was carrying an injury heading into the game meaning Calafiori played at left-back, a talent who showcased all that he could do.

On the face of it, Arsenal supporters were obviously delighted with Calafiori’s display – the Italian provided the moment of inspiration that got the Gunners level.

But across the board, some fans on X also spotted some minor insufficiencies in Calafiori’s performance from a defensive perspective, something he’ll improve on with time.

One fan wrote: “Calafiori by the way – quality, but most importantly – character.

“Sloppy for the Haaland goal & struggled at times against Savinho, but hits back with an unbelievable goal. What a performance for a full debut.”

Another supporter shared similar sentiments, mentioning that Gabriel Magalhaes had to take some blame for Erling Haaland’s goal too.

“Calafiori was Terrific, Made one error allowing savio to move inside for their goal (Gabriel at fault as well tbh), but as a first start what a player we have.”

One fan actually claimed that he was ‘sceptical’ about Calafiori before his first start, saying he’s now reassured those concerns.

They wrote: “I was always sceptical about Calafiori, dude brought the Italian in him out today.

“The defensive switch to Timber and Calafiori was a chess move by Arteta. Guardiola didn’t expect that. Doku could not do much.”

Another fan then expressed that all was forgiven when Calafiori made up for his part in Haaland’s opener.

They shared: “That Calafiori goal was disgusting. What a way to announce yourself and make up for the first goal.”
