Arsenal fans all in total agreement about Thomas Partey vs Atalanta, they send clear message to Arteta

Arsenal fans are not happy with Thomas Partey after the Gunners’ 0-0 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League.

It was an uneventful 90 minutes for Arsenal in Bergamo, as Mikel Arteta’s side failed to break down the 2024 Europa League winners.

Atalanta put up a stellar fight against the Premier League club, making it incredibly difficult for Arsenal to put their stamp on the game.

The talking point from the fixture was how it was so nearly not a stalemate between the two sides, as David Raya emerged as the hero early into the second half.

Arsenal hearts were in mouths as the Gunners conceded a penalty, which was unable to be converted by Mateo Retegui, who was out tricked by Raya.

The Spaniard pulled off an exceptional double save to continue his mesmerising form in 2024/25 although the goalkeeper would not have been tested if it wasn’t for Thomas Partey.

Not only did Partey’s clumsy challenge see Atalanta awarded a penalty, but the Ghanaian was far from good enough on the night.

Arsenal fans took to X to react to the midfielder’s performance, with many calling for Arteta to take action.

“Partey will be the death of us,” one supporter said, to which another agreed by saying, “Playing Partey is just negligent at this point.”

As expected, the main concern over the 31-year-old’s night was his foul to conceded the penalty.

“That was a stupid play from Partey. He should leave for Saudi in January.”

One supporter said, “He doesn’t need to do it either. Just awful,” with plenty of other fans unable to justify Partey’s actions.

“The minute Merino is fit Partey is toast. Plays the game half asleep. Only there because Mikel is injured,” and “Thomas Partey needs to buy David Raya a BIG Birthday present.”

Others looked past the fixture against Atalanta, with a thought to what the future holds for the midfielder in North London.

“Partey’s legs are gone, he needs to go,” one supporter said, “Maybe Arteta will now open his eyes. How are you still playing this fool?”

Other supporters previewed the upcoming battle with Manchester City, “Partey has been awful, and we’re about to take him to the Etihad off the back of 3 games in a week.”

Supporters showed great concern over Partey’s display but also showed some optimism that the 31-year-old won’t have a lot of game time in the near future.

“It’s fair to say Partey is the weak link in the Arsenal midfield. Giving the ball away, clumsy challenges and not really much going forward. Likely won’t play too much when Merino is back.”

Arteta is short in resources in midfield as a result of Mikel Merino’s injury and Martin Odegaard’s absence although the manager must be realising that Partey is not the answer.

The former Atletico Madrid ace looked sluggish and far from his peak against Atalanta, showing form that has become expected from him in recent months at the Emirates.

It’s a real concern to consider that Arteta will likely field the Ghanaian against Man City in what will be crucial fixture in the Premier League title race.
