Arsenal fans compare one thing Bukayo Saka did vs Southampton with iconic Mesut Ozil moment

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is now becoming the creative hub of the team, as he delivered another decisive performance against Southampton.

Arsenal fell behind after Cameron Archer opened the scoring for the visitors, but Saka stepped up again for Mikel Arteta’s team as he provided two assists before scoring himself to secure a 3-1 win.

Saka now leads the Premier League for assists and chances created, which is invoking memories of the last time Arsenal had the leading playmaker in the division.

Mesut Ozil’s time at Arsenal ended badly, but at his best, he was one of the most creative players in the world, with unmatched vision in the final third.

Arsenal fans are now remembering Ozil’s genius after Saka’s excellent assist for Gabriel Martinelli’s goal, which invoked memories of several strikes created by the German.

Arsenal fans are now remembering one of Ozil’s best assists at the club, which saw him play an incredible cross to Nacho Monreal, who finished against Swansea in January 2018.

“Reminded me a bit of that Ozil assist to Nacho Monreal against Swansea,” one fan posted on X.

“Saka’s assist today took me back to the Ozil ball to Monreal at Swansea. Everyone can keep trying to bring him down but he’s shown time and time again, he’s HIM,” another claimed.

Fans are comparing Saka’s creative impact to Ozil’s, with Saka stepping up in the absence of Martin Odegaard to create for his teammates.

“At what point do we start looking at saka as a playmaker to rival Ozil?” One fan questioned.

“Doubt ever. Saka is a genius but he’s not ozil’s level of genius. We’re talking about an elite btl [between the lines] player and all time passer. Saka not that level,” another fan replied.

“Ozil-esque assist from Saka to Martinelli today, love to see it,” another posted during the game.

Bukayo Saka trying to emulate Mesut Ozil’s creativity

Saka has been sensational in recent weeks, and whilst his all-round game is outstanding, it is still difficult to reach the creative level Ozil showed at his best.

The Englishman is on seven assists and 27 chances created right now, but Ozil’s best record in the Premier League was 19 assists, with a record 146 chances created.

Speaking in 2022, Saka revealed his admiration for Ozil, having briefly played alongside him in his latter days at the club

“I think I would probably say Mesut Ozil. He plays in his own world,” Saka replied when asked which Arsenal player impressed him the most in training.

“Some of the things he does and you look at him, just wow.”

Saka is now pulling off Ozil-esque assists, and he will hope to continue his excellent form when it comes to creativity to try and beat the German’s records and win the title.
