Arsenal fans have a lot to say about Thomas Partey after Aston Villa clash, there is a raging debate

Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the new Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

It was no walk in the park for Arsenal against Aston Villa, and Ollie Watkins will feel that he should have netted twice against the North London club, as he was guilty of one glaring miss and then forced a stunning save from David Raya.

Second half substitute Leandro Trossard scored with his first touch, before Thomas Partey doubled the Gunners’ advantage.

Arteta will feel that his team exacted revenge at Villa Park, as Unai Emery’s side beat the Gunners home and away in the Premier League last season. Robert Pires felt Arsenal’s losses against Aston Villa last time around ultimately cost them the title.

It was not a perfect performance on Saturday though, and this was perhaps best typified by Partey’s display. On the ball, the Ghanaian kept Arsenal moving forward, and of course he also provided the second goal.

When Aston Villa were in possession, though, the 31-year-old midfielder was all-too-easily outmuscled and out-paced on more than one occasion.

Arsenal fans split on Thomas Partey after Aston Villa win

Partey’s performance has sparked debate amongst Arsenal fans on X. A few felt that his positive contributions outweighed the flaws in his display.

One said: “Shout out partey as well a top performance and I said it last week he is gonna be a important player for us this season and really put himself about and scored a top goal to seal the game and he really put himself about.”

Another added: “Been a good performance from Partey today and I was just starting to think it was time to get him off as he was losing his battle with Rodgers. But that’s a nice accurate hit.”

Others, though, were more willing to voice concern about the former Atletico Madrid man.

One stated: “Partey physically cooked but play really good.”
