Arsenal man reveals who was behind summer transfer after Mikel Arteta shared concerns
Arsenal gave midfielder maestro Fabio Vieira the green light to return to FC Porto on loan this summer, but it was the player himself who seemingly pushed for the move.
Fabio Vieira admits that he was the one who pushed through a move to FC Porto this summer.
The Portugal midfielder, 24, joined Arsenal from Porto back in 2022 but he has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth in a side which has since re-established themselves as Premier League title contenders.
Vieira was among a handful of players who were thought to be available this summer and it was confirmed last month that he would return to Portugal, albeit only on loan.
And the playmaker has now revealed that it was him who drove the move back to Porto, where he impressed after progressing through the club’s academy ranks.
Speaking to El Jogo, via Sport Witness, Vieira said of the move: “The idea of returning came from me. I love this club and I’m going to give everything on the pitch.”
While Vieira arrived in London to much fanfare, the attacking midfielder has struggled to show his class on the pitch. A combination of injuries and competition in midfield has seen him fall down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.
It emerged back in May that the Spaniard had, in fact, privately expressed concerns over Vieira’s performances in training – something which became a major factor in the midfielder’s lack of minutes.
