Arsenal start talks to sign ‘one of the best strikers in the world’ in January, he’s the top target

Arsenal are already preparing their plans for the January transfer window.

The Gunners had a decent summer. They signed David Raya, Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori on permanent deals, while Raheem Sterling and Neto were brought in on loan.

Those signings solved most of Arsenal’s problems, but the one issue that still remains is that they don’t have a prolific goalscorer up front.

That could be addressed when the January transfer window opens.

Arsenal start talks with Jonathan David’s agents

Jonathan David has been a target for Premier League clubs for a long time.

The 24-year-old, who has been hailed as ‘one of the best strikers in the world’ by Canadian sports expert Tony Marinaro on X, had a very impressive campaign at Lille in the 2023/24 season, where he directly contributed to 35 goals in all competitions.

There was a feeling that he would leave the French club in the summer, but no move materialised in the end despite many links.

David has now entered the final year of his contract at Lille, and CaughtOffside have claimed that Arsenal have made him their transfer priority in the January window.

It has been revealed that the Gunners have even opened talks with the striker’s agents, but Mikel Arteta’s side face some competition.

The report claims that fellow Premier League giants Liverpool are also interested in signing David, who will likely be available for a bargain fee in January as he’ll have just six months left on his deal then.

Just a few days ago, a report from Italy claimed that Arsenal are in the ‘front row’ to sign David along with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Arsenal have another striker on their January shortlist

The report claims that Arsenal are prioritising a move for David in January, but the Lille star isn’t the only name on their list.

It has been revealed that Ajax striker Brian Brobbey is the other striker on Arsenal’s radar, but the Dutchman will likely cost more than David because his contract doesn’t expire until 2027.

Brobbey had a fine 2023/24 campaign at Ajax. He directly contributed to 34 goals, just one less than David’s return at Lille.

It will be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta will table a bid for either player in January.
