The £34million move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino is moving closer with the final details of his transfer all but completed and sources have confirmed to football.london that they expect Merino’s arrival to be confirmed very soon.

Arsenal continue to be linked with players, which is likely to be the case right up until Friday’s deadline. Kingsley Coman is one of the latest, with reports suggesting the France winger is keen to leave Bayern Munich for the Premier League.

There continues to be speculation about the future of Aaron Ramsdale and Eddie Nketiah, with the goalkeeper looking likely to leave on loan, while Nketiah is subject to an offer worth £25million-plus from Crystal Palace. But overseas sides are still believed to be interested in the striker.

Merino on Tierney

Mikel Merino has admitted he sought advice off Kieran Tierney before making the switch to Arsenal.

Merino and Tierney played together at Real Sociedad last season and are now reunited at the Emirates, albeit the Scot might leave before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Merino said: “Yes, of course, we were talking last year as well, when we were there. I was asking some questions, because I always want to learn new things, and how life was in Arsenal, how they were doing things.

“We spoke a few hours ago as well, and he said that this is a huge step for me in terms of my football career and also that I will love London and England. If he says this is a good place, then this is a good place.”

Darwin Nunez to Arsenal?

On Tuesday night a few rumours began to surface online linking Arsenal with a sensational move for Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez before the summer window closes at the end of the week.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan moved to Anfield from Benfica for an initial £64m in June 2022 but has struggled to find consistency with the Reds.

And after failing to start the opening two games of the new Premier League season, it’s not at all surprising to see the Uruguayan tentatively linked with a move away from Anfield – that, of course, is what happens at this stage of the summer window every year.

However, reports on social media claiming the Gunners are interested in making an ambitious move for Nunez are yet to come from a credible source.
