Arsenal transfer news LIVE – Double deal ‘confirmed’, Sterling truth, Coman decision, Neto problem
Arsenal have signed two new players this summer, with Italian centre-back Riccardo Calafiori and Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino the only new faces. David Raya and Tommy Setford have also joined on permanent deals with the duo joined by Neto after he signed from Bournemouth following Aaron Ramsdale’s switch to Southampton.
Though Arsenal are unlikely to make another major acquisition, the likes of Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling and Bayern Munich forward Kingsley Coman have all been linked, however the trio look set to remain at their current clubs.
More Arsenal transfer updates from Ornstein
David Ornstein has issued another Arsenal transfer update which will not please supporters.
Of the 20 Premier League clubs, the Gunners look set for a relatively quiet deadline day in comparison to rivals with Ornstein seemingly confirming exactly that.
He said, via the Athletic: “As far as I know, Arsenal’s incoming business is done.” Signing a wide attacker was something being looked at by Mikel Arteta and Edu, however that now looks unlikely and therefore Neto will be on the only deadline day arrival on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.
Unwanted Neto blow before transfer announcement
Arsenal are set to complete their summer transfer business with the loan signing of AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto after deciding against a permanent move for Espanyol’s Joan Garcia.
The Brazilian will come in as the Gunners’ number two after Aaron Ramsdale left the club for Southampton. Neto will be second choice goalkeeper behind David Raya at the Emirates Stadium for the 2024/25 season. The Spaniard joined permanently from Brentford earlier this summer after impressing on loan last season.
It’s expected that Neto will be used when needed by Mikel Arteta, with cup games likely to be his chance to play. However, the former Barcelona shot-stopper will not be able to play in the Carabao Cup.
Sterling deadline day transfer odds
Staying at Chelsea looks to be the deadline day outcome for Raheem Sterling amid links to Arsenal and Manchester United.
Having been exiled from Chelsea’s senior squad, the Blues are very much open to him sealing a departure. Though a move to either Old Trafford or Emirates Stadium seems unlikely at this stage, things could change over the next few hours with Arsenal favourites to sign him as per BetMGM.
