Arsenal are yet to add an attacker to their squad with just over a week to go until the end of the transfer window, and there is no clear standout target.
Several attackers have been linked, with it now more likely that Arsenal add a winger to their squad than a centre-forward.
Names recently linked include Raheem Sterling and Ademola Lookman, but both deals could be tricky in terms of finances.
Mikel Arteta’s side scored a lot last season, but came just short of the title, and one key factor was their lack of game-changing attackers, as well as speedy wingers beyond Gabriel Martinelli.
Pedro Neto and Nico Williams were also linked earlier in the window to no avail, but it is now becoming clearer what kind of player Arsenal are targeting.

Speaking on The Transfers Podcast, journalist David Ornstein revealed that Arsenal are looking for a winger who is willing to accept a backup role to Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
“Arsenal are looking for a winger who will be happy being a backup and still be happy to contribute,” he stated.
“It’s possible Arsenal can bring someone in this position, if it is the right deal.”
There are concerns that Bukayo Saka has been playing too many games over the past few seasons, and fans are keen for a backup to be signed.
A winger who can play on both sides, as well as adding speed to the squad could be the ideal solution, but Arsenal may now find that the best option is one who is already at the club.
Reiss Nelson issue shows why Arsenal will struggle to sign a winger
Reiss Nelson is currently still at the club, and he is a winger who adds speed and can play on both wings.
However, when Arsenal were close to a fully-fit squad last season, Nelson could not even make the bench, and started just one Premier League game.
Even if he does leave, a new winger may find himself also struggling for game time. Saka will aim to start most games, and Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard can also cover on the right wing.
Any winger joining will be wary of the difficulty of becoming a starter, and financially, Arsenal are unlikely to invest heavily in a player who will not upgrade the starting XI.
This limits Arsenal’s options in the final days of the window, and it will not be a surprise if Nelson ends up staying as the Saka backup for this season.
