Boss confirms star joining Arsenal – Gunners told sign 21-goal ace – Prem star tells Arsenal ace to leave
Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil has seemingly confirmed that the Spain international is leaving the club and joining Arsenal this summer after months and months of transfer speculation.
Merino is a player that ARSENAL have been trying to sign for the past few week – there has been so many rumours about him making that move to the Emirates that is has always been a matter of when and not if.
Merino is understood to be on his way to London today to complete his medical and sign a contract as an Arsenal player, and Alguacil praised the 28-year-old during his press conference ahead of Sociedad’s clash with Espanyol.
He said: “Mikel Merino has some farewell stops after mine, but that’s it, because he’s gone.
“Thank you, thank you for everything you have given me, for everything you have given to the team, for everything you have given to the club.
“He arrived as a boy of 22 years old, six years ago, incredible, a brutal growth. An example for all Real Sociedad players, for all signings.
“I’m very happy that Merino is leaving, and I’ll summarise it very simply, because I am also very proud that Mikel Merino is taking this important step [in his career].
Arsenal have been signing players that will add to that side this transfer window – Merino should add some much needed depth and quality to the side – he will be a great signing for the club we are sure.
ARSENAL fans are loving life at the moment and if the club can get a striker too by the end of the window – they will surely have Man City more worried than the Premier League Champions already are.
Arsenal super-fan Laura Woods reckons Newcastle’s Alexander Isak would be the new main striker the Gunners reportedly want before the close of the transfer window in just a few days time.
Isak conjured up 21 goals and two assists across 30 Premier League games last season, and with no European fixtures this term, Newcastle look set to challenge for a top-four finish, which they achieved under manager Eddie Howe in 2022-23.
The popular presenter was disappointed Slovenia hitman Benjamin Sesko stayed at RB Leipzig, Woods reckons Newcastle’s Alexander Isak would be the new main striker the Gunners reportedly want – Woods told BetMGM: “Arsenal shared the goals around last season and did it well, but plenty still think they need a central striker.
“The positives are only Manchester City outscored Arsenal last season so it’s not like they are lacking in firepower. However the negatives are that City won the league and Arsenal didn’t.
“I was quite a Benjamin Sesko fan and was hoping that deal went through over the summer. “I was quite a Benjamin Sesko fan and was hoping that deal went through over the summer.
“I also really like Alexander Isak and would love it if Arsenal snapped him up – he looks an ideal type for this Arsenal side.”
Look, there are alot of fans that would love to see Arsenal sign Isak – he was brilliant last season for the Toon – but we believe that will not happen, and to be honest, we doubt Arteta will sign a striker.
The ARSENAL boss is loyal to the players that he has and if he wanted to bring in a striker this summer – he would have made his move long before the start of the transfer window.
So Arsenal fans dont be surprised if a new striker is not brought to the club this window.
RAMSDALE TOLD TO LEAVE –
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez has said that Aaron Ramsdale should move on from the Emirates Stadium and find a place where he ‘feels loved’ and get the game time that he deserves.
Ramsdale has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few months as there is a massive feeling that he wanted out of ARSENAL – that he wanted to leave the club after they signed David Raya on a permanent basis.
However – over the past few weeks the speculation has died down a bit and interest in the England stopper has wavered – which suggested that he would be open to staying and fight for his place in the Gunners side.
However – David Raya looks like a man that will not get dropped too many times this season and having established himself as one of the top Premier League goalkeepers, Martinez has now told the Gunners star to leave – Martinez said:
“I think it’s a different position (to the one I was in). He signed for £24m, he was the No.1 for Arsenal, I never had a chance like that.
“When you play every game in the Premier League and then you drop to the bench, with the quality that Aaron has, I think he should find a place to play where he feels loved.
“I heard he might go to Wolves, which I think could be a good move for him. He is a player that England needs in their goalkeeping area. He has a great future.
Ramsdale is far too good to be sitting on the bench every week and he must have hated it last season – there are some big clubs interested in a potential deal – and if anyone gets the man, they will be getting a very good shot-stopper.
ARSENAL have a number of players that they will be selling this summer – we are fully expecting him to depart the Emirates over the next few days and we wouldnt be shocked to see him stay in the Premier League.
As we said – he has done nothing wrong since his move to Arsenal – he is a very good stopper that could play for most of the big sides in the Premier League.
