Disrespectful’… Arsenal fans can’t believe what Myles Lewis-Skelly did whilst playing for under-21s

It seems fair to say that Myles Lewis-Skelly is now a fully fledged member of Mikel Arteta’s first team at Arsenal – he’s rarely not been on the bench this season.

Along with Ethan Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly has made the most of Arsenal missing some of their senior players in the early part of the season, earning the chance to play some serious minutes.

As well as making his Champions League debut, Arteta trusted the 18-year-old during an incredibly tough situation at the Etihad, a test he passed well.

That being said, Lewis-Skelly didn’t go away with any of England’s youth squads over the break, which was something of a surprise.

The Arsenal youngster is definitely good enough to join Nwaneri at England under-19s, and the pair are probably good enough to go one step higher in truth.

Given he didn’t go away with England, Lewis-Skelly played for Arsenal under-21s in their 2-2 draw against MK Dons in the EFL trophy.

Arsenal eventually lost the game on penalties, but Lewis-Skelly played 90 minutes at left-back and looked far too good for that level, something fans noticed on X.

A clip circulated from the game of the Arsenal youngster dribbling with the ball, turning direction, all whilst holding off a MK Dons attacker.

One fan watching the video wrote: “Almost feels a bit rude and disrespectful, [he’s] playing with his prey.”

Another watched the moment of brilliance and said: “I thought this was [Jurrien] Timber for a second.”

Another supporter actually boldly compared Lewis-Skelly to Real Madrid icon Marcelo, a Brazilian full-back who often wowed with his ability on the ball.

“There are some elements of Marcelo in Lewis-Skelly.”

Although, one fan actually disagreed with a lot of the sentiments above, saying that he thought Lewis-Skelly’s left-back experiment was a mistake, presumably feeling that he needs to return to midfield.

Seeing clips from the game, it did almost feel as if Lewis-Skelly was frustrated to be playing back at that level given what he’s recently been exposed to.

At times the 18-year-old was making things harder for himself almost on purpose, perhaps trying to prove a point.

But either way, it’s important that Lewis-Skelly continues to play regular minutes.

And given the senior defenders who are now returning for Arteta, perhaps it would be a good idea for the club to seek a January loan for the young Englishman.

Lewis-Skelly is evidently keen to kick on, and he might not get too many more opportunities for now once Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko are both fully fit.
