Four Arsenal experts each name one dream signing Edu could make before Transfer Deadline Day
Arsenal could be set to complete further business before the summer transfer window shuts.
Transfer Deadline Day is this Friday, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta may try to sneak another new arrival in before the window closes.
Arsenal announced the signing of Mikel Merino yesterday, with the Spanish midfielder joining Riccardo Calafiori as a new face at the Emirates Stadium.
The Arsenal Insider writers have now each named one player they’d love to see the Gunners sign before 11pm on Friday.
Nico Williams
There’s very little doubt in my mind that Nico Williams is the perfect signing right now, and I’m not even sure he necessarily needs to fall into the ‘dream’ category.
Arsenal should realistically be able to sign a player like Williams, both from a financial and appeal point of view.
After recruiting Calafiori and Merino, there’s no doubt that a winger is the final piece of the puzzle for Arteta – and why settle for less than Williams?
Lets sign a truly world-class player and attack the title. Having Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and then Williams to complete the quartet would be an absolute dream. – Lucas Arnold.
Federico Chiesa
With moves for attackers such as Benjamin Sesko and Williams seemingly off the cards, Arsenal would benefit from gambling on a low-cost alternative.
Federico Chiesa could be perfect in this regard. The 26-year-old has been told to leave Juventus, and is in desperate need of a fresh start.
Prior to a long-term injury, Chiesa was operating at a world-class level, and helped Italy win Euro 2020.
Chiesa is available for as little as £13m this summer, and can play across the entire front four. He scored 10 goals last season, and at his best, brings incredible speed and 1v1 dribbling.
Arteta is a manager who can get him back to his best, and he can provide cover for anyone in the front line. Given his low price tag, Chiesa is a low-risk, high reward signing that could help carry Arsenal to the title. – Rahul Lakhani.
Viktor Gyokeres
Signing Viktor Gyokeres would be a dream come true given the levels he’s shown over the last couple of years for both Coventry City and Sporting CP.
He’s an established scorer with the clinical streak that Arsenal are currently missing, being the target man that could turn Arteta’s side from title contenders to title favourites.
Now that Eddie Nketiah is set to depart and Gabriel Jesus is injured once again, Arteta and Edu Gaspar should be aiming high when it comes to replenishing in the striker department, with very few number nines as good as Gyokeres in world football right now. – Rosie Tudbull
Mohammed Kudus
If this summer is viewed as one in which Arsenal have focused upon improving the strength in depth of their squad, rather than aiming for any bank-breaking statement signings, then Mohammed Kudus is the player who could now come in and address the Gunners’ remaining squad concerns in one fell swoop.
With Emile Smith Rowe gone and Fabio Vieira set to leave on loan, Arteta’s group is light on playmakers beyond the club captain, Martin Odegaard. Ian Wright has also urged Arsenal to source back up for Saka.
Kudus is comfortable in a variety of positions, and can operate centrally as an attacking-midfielder, or on the flanks.
Arsenal were linked with Kudus last summer, before he confirmed his switch to West Ham. He has since proven his ability to shine at Premier League level after a stellar first season in East London.
Of course, the Hammers would be extremely reluctant to let Kudus go, but this is dream territory stuff we are talking about here, right? – Will Jones.
