Arsenal have a lot of positives to take already from this season, but there are a few negatives too.

The Gunners should be proud of their performance away against Manchester City on Sunday. They definitely deserved to win, but a draw is not a bad result considering the circumstances.

Arsenal remain just two points off the top of the Premier League table and have already played Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester City away from home.

That’s three very tough fixtures out of the way, and seven points out of a possible nine is an excellent return.

Those are some great positives, but the injuries Arsenal have had headline the negatives this season.

Arsenal are concerned about Takehiro Tomiyasu’s fitness and four clubs want to sign him

Injuries have been really cruel to Takehiro Tomiyasu since his debut season at Arsenal.

The Japan international joined the Gunners in the summer of 2021. Since February 2022, he has missed a total of 50 games for club and country and that number is going up.

Tomiyasu is currently injured as well and no return date has been revealed. That is really concerning, and his future is now up in the air as a result.

Reports have claimed that Tomiyasu is ready to leave Arsenal in January, and it looks like that feeling could be mutual.

CaughtOffside reveal that there are growing ‘concerns’ at Arsenal over Tomiyasu’s injury issues. It has been claimed that the versatile defender is now a ‘candidate’ to leave in 2025 – either in January or in the summer.

Tomiyasu is not short of options if he decides to go. Four of Italy’s biggest clubs – AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli – are all keeping an eye on him.

The Japanese defender’s current contract at Arsenal does not expire until the summer of 2026. The Gunners also have an option to extend that by another year.

What should Arsenal do with Tomiyasu?

Tomiyasu is a dream player for any manager to have.

The former Bologna man, branded as ‘world-class’ by Ben White (Goal), can play anywhere across the backline and also in midfield if required. He is good with both feet, brilliant in the air and can invert from either side too.

That is the reason why Arteta was so keen to sign Tomiyasu in 2021, but injuries have made him really unreliable. That is not ideal at all.

Arsenal have Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori available now on top of the likes of White, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior. Myles Lewis-Skelly is making a good impression too.

So, if the offer is right, we think selling Tomiyasu would be the best thing for all parties involved in 2025.
