Ian Wright thinks one Arsenal player looked a ‘little bit off’ against Brighton, it wasn’t Declan Rice

Arsenal dropped points for the first time this season in a 1-1 draw with Brighton, in a controversial game.

Referee Chris Kavanagh made the astonishing decision to hand a red card to Declan Rice after he touched the ball during a stoppage, despite not punishing Brighton striker Joao Pedro for breaking the same rule in the first half.

Arsenal did hold on for a draw, and attackers Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka impressed again as they combined for the opening goal.

Even beyond his red card, Rice looked far from his usual world-class level, and this followed a shaky performance against Aston Villa last week.

However, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has highlighted a different player as one who dropped a concerning display, ahead of a tough run of fixtures.

Speaking via Premier League productions, Wright highlighted Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard’s performance as a disappointing one in the Brighton draw.

“I think Odegaard has been a little bit off with his play at the minute,” he stated during the game.

Odegaard was substituted when Arsenal were down to 10 men, but whilst he was far from his best, he did have some promising moments.

He is yet to score or assist in the Premier League this season, but the 25-year-old was still performing well before the Brighton match.

Odegaard did create a chance for Bukayo Saka with an excellent chipped pass, but it was a frustrating game for him beyond that.

He misplaced a lot of passes, completing just 47% of his 19 attempts, whilst he should have done better with a shot after a cross from Leandro Trossard.

Odegaard did have the chance to play Trossard in on a counter-attack, but again his final ball was below-par, which was very out of character for him.

Despite his poor display, there is little reason to be concerned over Odegaard, as he showed his world-class ability last season, and he will hope to bounce back after the international break.
