‘If I’m Trossard’… Arsenal hero has clear advice for the Arsenal star after being ‘upset’ at Arteta

Leandro Trossard was the hero for Arsenal on Saturday evening as he made a match-winning contribution from the bench against Aston Villa.

Mikel Arteta introduced the Belgian winger to the action in the 65th minute, with the score still level at 0-0. Moments after taking the place of Gabriel Martinelli, Trossard put the Gunners ahead with his first touch of the ball.

Trossard has proven himself as a super sub, but will feel that, on form, he ought be in the starting XI.

Certainly, Martinelli has not been at his best of late. However, Arteta has seemed intent on giving the Brazilian winger every possible opportunity to play his way back into form.

Martinelli disappointed against Aston Villa though, and it is becoming increasingly hard to justify his inclusion in the starting lineup ahead of Trossard.

Trossard and Arteta have clashed in the past over the former Brighton man’s lack of game time, and it seems that a rift could be forming between the duo again.

After the win at Villa Park, Arteta admitted that Trossard had been “upset” to find himself amongst the substitutes again ahead of the game.

Trossard sent a message to Arteta with his muted goal celebration against the Midlands outfit, and it is clear that he feels aggrieved.

However, legendary former Arsenal striker Ian Wright feels that Trossard needs to reconsider his mindset.

Speaking on his Wrighty’s House podcast, the pundit said: “As a player himself, an international, top player, he’s come here to win things. He wants to make his mark.

“The pressure that he has is that, when he has a game like that where he comes on and scores, then he puts it into the manager’s lap, ‘listen, you’ve got to start me.’ Then he [Arteta] may try to start him in a game that might suit Gabriel Martinelli.

“I think the fact that Mikel’s got those options, and like I say, he [Trossard] will play his part, but I think it’s going to be horses for courses and you’ve got to take that on board. If I’m Trossard, as frustrating as it might be, for the moment I’m just going to take that on board… I’m going to take that.”

Should Trossard start for Arsenal vs Brighton?

The Gunners will welcome Trossard’s former club to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The 29-year-old will be convinced that he has now done enough to come into the team ahead of Martinelli for this match.

Arsenal fans want Trossard to start against Brighton, and have made their feelings on the matter clear.

However, given the pace of Brighton’s attackers in the wide areas, there is an argument that Martinelli would be better equipped to help the hosts’ rearguard cope with the threat that they pose.

Ultimately, it will be fascinating to see who Arteta goes with on the left wing, and what the fall out will be if he decides to hold Trossard in reserve again.
