Mikel Arteta talked up the qualities and the hunger of Raheem Sterling as calls increase for the Arsenal loanee to come into the starting XI.
Despite not initially being on the club’s radar Sterling was signed late on deadline day, arriving for the season from Chelsea as he looks to rediscover his best form. Arteta has worked with the winger previously at Manchester City, where he enjoyed the best period of his career.
If Sterling is to come into the starting XI it will likely be Gabriel Martinelli dropping out with Bukayo Saka a certain starter on the opposite flank. Martinelli’s form has also dipped in recent months and the Arsenal boss now has more depth and credible alternatives.
Arteta spoke to Sterling on the phone when he first considered bringing him to the Emirates and was quickly convinced that the Englishman, who has lost his international spot, can make valuable contributions.
It might have been made harder than it should have been, but Arsenal mercifully scored three times against Aaron Ramsdale’s Southampton to grab an all-important three points. With the results of their title rivals, Mikel Arteta could not afford to drop any here. Like with the clash with Leicester City, there was still an air of…

In theory, things should get easier from here, at least temporarily. Arteta will hope that he does not have to contend with missing…
Arsenal’s academy has impressed in recent years, producing talents who are edging ever closer to breaking into the club’s first team under Mikel Arteta. Ethan Nwaneri is arguably the most promising, making his debut for the club in September 2022 as a 15-year-old against Brentford at the GTEC Community Stadium – making him the youngest-ever appearance maker…
The international break has halted the Premier League action – just as it got going. Arsenal had enjoyed a positive start to the season on the pitch having claimed seven points from their opening three games. That might have been nine had they not been reduced to ten men in their 1-1 draw against Brighton. Regardless, Mikel Arteta ’s men still…
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will be looking to shake off their disappointing draw against Brighton last time out when they return to action against Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners are aiming to make it three wins on the bounce at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Arteta’s preparations were rocked when Martin Odegaard picked up an injury on international duty during the week. It’s…
