Three Nico Williams alternatives Arsenal can sign from LaLiga, including one Unai Emery called ‘brave’

An option who can play on both wings to provide rotational cover for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, whilst also adding a spark of pace would be the perfect signing.

Arsenal were keen on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, but the Euro 2024 winner looks unlikely to leave his club this summer.

Mikel Arteta is well aware of the top talents within La Liga, with Mikel Merino joining from Real Sociedad in recent days, and Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia being targeted.

With Williams likely to be out of the question this summer, there are other wingers in La Liga who can arrive as high-potential rotation options to strengthen the squad, and three options could be available to Arteta.

La Liga wingers Arsenal could target instead of Nico Williams

Spain’s top flight is blessed with top attacking talents, and there are three young wingers who should be on Arteta’s radar in the final days of the window.

Yeremy Pino

Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino has previously been linked with Arsenal, and it is easy to see why. The 21-year-old started in the Europa League final as Villarreal beat Manchester United in 2021, and he has been coveted across Europe.

However, Yeremy spent most of last season absent with a ligament injury, but he is now in the team again as he aims to reach full fitness.

His fitness could make him available at a lower price, and given his speed, eye for goal and ability to play on both sides, he could be a long-term investment to add cover for now before being moulded into a starter.

Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, who managed Yeremy at Villarreal, described him as “brave,” and the attacker would add speed and a direct attacking threat to the Arsenal squad.

Assane Diao

Spain under-19 International Assane Diao is one of the most promising teenagers in European football, having enjoyed a strong breakout season at Real Betis last season.

An 18-year-old winger who can play on both sides, Diao is a raw but talented attacker with a strong work-rate, and could add a lot of speed to the front line.

Like Yeremy, Diao would take some adjustment and moulding by Arteta to become a key player for Arsenal, but he would add cover in the short term.

He scored four goals in 29 appearances for Betis in his first senior season, but Betis could be open to letting him go as they need to raise finances to strengthen the rest of their squad.

Samuel Lino

The Brazilian has often featured as a wing-back for Atletico Madrid, but it is clear that he has so much more to offer going forward.

Lino came back from an impressive loan spell at Valencia to thrive under Diego Simeone last season, recording eight goals and eight assists in all competitions.

The 24-year-old is skilful on the ball, and possesses an explosive pace. If given more attacking freedom alongside Arsenal’s other attackers, there is potential for Lino to develop into a deadly winger.

It is unclear if Atletico would be willing to part with a key player, but given their heavy expenditure this summer, there may be potential for a big-money deal if Arteta is interested.
