Three things in Arsenal vs Aston Villa will convince Arteta to make one transfer before Deadline Day

Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday evening was by no means straightforward. 

Arsenal rode their luck at times at Villa Park. Goalkeeper David Raya was praised for his heroics, as he produced one particularly stunning save to keep the scores level at 0-0.

Thomas Partey also struggled in the middle of the park, and Gabriel Martinelli failed to impress.

However, Leandro Trossard proved his super sub credentials once again, firing the Gunners ahead with his first touch of the ball, just after coming in the 65th minute. Partey then added a second to secure the points.

The North London club weren’t able to create an abundance of chances against the Midlands outfit though, and there were signs in this match that Mikel Arteta could do with adding some extra firepower to his squad.

Gabriel Jesus sat out this fixture due to an injury. The Brazilian has been plagued with fitness issues since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

Whilst the former Manchester City man may well be a key figure in Arteta’s plans, this latest setback has provided a timely remember – with less than a week of the summer transfer window remaining – that he simply cannot be relied upon to remain available.

Jesus is undergoing a scan on his injury, as reported by The Athletic, suggesting that it could be more serious than initially thought.

Kai Havertz quiet for Arsenal vs Aston Villa

With Jesus ruled out, Kai Havertz was the only real option Arteta had to call upon to lead the line at Villa Park. The German has impressed in the role recently, but was unable to impose himself against Unai Emery’s side.

As per WhoScored statistics, the former Chelsea man managed just one shot against the Villans, which was off target, and didn’t play any key passes. This game was crying out for an alternative presence up front.

Arsenal have been linked with many strikers this summer, and an option who offers a different skillset to that provided by Havertz would be useful to have.

Arsenal face attacking exits

Eddie Nketiah was on the bench on Saturday, and could’ve offered some variety up front. However, Arteta may well have been reluctant to use the Hale End academy graduate whilst it looks as though he is set to leave the club.

Nketiah has been linked with Crystal Palace, as per The Athletic, and his exit would leave the Gunners with even fewer options to lead the line.
