Three things that will definitely happen to Arsenal after Mikel Arteta agrees new contract

Arsenal have seen the mood of their initial season wins over Wolves and Aston Villa take a considerable hit after the draw with Brighton which saw Declan Rice sent off and suspended for this weekend’s North London Derby. However, as they say, things can only get better and the old adage has again been proven with Mikel Arteta having signed a brand new three-year contract.

Arteta would have seen his current deal expire at the end of the campaign leaving the future of the managerial position up in the air again after nearly five years with the club. However, that has been put to bed and the 42-year-old will indeed be with the side until at least 2027.

The news of Arteta signing a new deal has a doubly negative effect on Manchester City with the potential exit of Pep Guardiola when his deal expires in the summer and now losing a potential target to replace him. The idea that Arsenal’s main title rivals could steal Arteta seemed unlikely but it wouldn’t have been the first time a shock move from north London to Manchester would have happened.

On top of that, the lift that the news will bring to Arsenal going into their title clash at the Etihad Stadium would have been preferred by City to have waited until afterwards. There will be a new-found momentum Arsenal hope after thisnews which could play a role in the game.

Transfer and contract security

For those players who were looking at their own Arsenal futures and wondering whether to renew their deals because of the uncertainty surrounding Arteta’s potential decision, they now have their answer. Arteta signing a new contract was a no-brainer for Arsenal and it helps with decisions internally and externally.

Any players who might’ve been looking at a move to the club, and off-field staff too, now have a vision of what the club will look like in the coming years. Players like Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori explained their desire to work with Arteta and this proves the Spaniard has become a highly-regarded figure in the game.
