Arsenal may have been given encouragement that they could complete a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners, as well as Chelsea, were linked with signing the Sweden international during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool were also briefly mentioned in some reports, but Gyokeres instead remained at Sporting as the deadline passed last week.
The striker, who signed from Coventry City in 2023, scored 43 goals in all competitions last season and already has seven in four Portuguese top-flight appearances this term.
According to HITC, though, Gyokeres may not be on the move in the near future. The report claims that the striker is weighing up his decision on whether or not to leave Sporting when the transfer window reopens in January.
It has been stated that Gyokeres is “ready” to confirm his decision to Sporting, with the expectation being that he wants to sign a new contract. The 26-year-old’s current deal runs until 2028, and despite having four years left to run it seems that both player and club are keen to agree fresh terms.
It remains to be seen if any new deal would include a release clause or an increase of the current figure. Sporting agreed to pay Coventry up to £20million including add-ons for the striker last year, and in the event a future sale happens are looking increasingly likely to make a significant profit.
The report goes further to say that both Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, remain interested in Gyokeres. All four aforementioned clubs are reported to have scouted the striker last season and are believed to be impressed with what they have seen.
But Gyokeres is said to have been swayed to stay in Portugal after his manager Ruben Amorim, who was linked with making a summer switch to the Premier League with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham reportedly interested in him, decided to stay at Sporting.
