Leandro Trossard came off the bench to make a decisive impact for Arsenal against Aston Villa.

Arsenal were able to grind out a 2-0 win against Aston Villa in a Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon, and Mikel Arteta has Leandro Trossard to thank for securing his side all three points.

Trossard has a brilliant record as a substitute, and underlined his ability to be a game-changer as he was introduced to the fray in the 65th minute at Villa Park, and put the Gunners 1-0 up with his first touch just moments later.

The Belgian winger had taken the place of Gabriel Martinelli, who has been short of his best in recent matches. Meanwhile, Trossard has been able to consistently provide end product when called upon.

The attacker will now be desperate for a run in the starting line up, and it has certainly now become harder for Arteta to justify leaving the 29-year-old out of the starting XI.

Trossard did not celebrate his strike against Aston Villa emphatically. Instead, the former Brighton man played it cool, and maintained an intensity in his expression, as though trying to force home a point – perhaps one directed to Arteta about leaving him out of the starting line up.

However, the excitable William Saliba was not content to allow the forward to remain so impassive throughout his goal celebration.

Instead, as seen in fan footage posted to X by Roby, the French centre-back could be seen urging and cajoling Trossard to perform his trademark binoculars celebration.

Ultimately, the former Brighton man relented and raised his hands to his face and encircled his eyes, to the obvious delight of Saliba.

Arsenal’s defensive standouts vs Aston Villa

At the other end of the pitch, Saliba had his own moment of glory. Late in the game, with the Gunners 2-0 up, Aston Villa launched a quick break and threatened to reduced the arrears as Jacob Ramsey was played clean through on goal.

However, after an electric recovery run, Saliba was able to perfectly time a last-ditch challenge and snuff out the danger. He then celebrated that intervention like a goal.

Meanwhile, David Raya was praised for his heroics at Villa Park, as he produced one save in particular to deny Ollie Watkins that will live long in the memory.
