Knicks Fans, Prepare for a Harsh Reality! Insider’s Stunning Admission
The New York Knicks have been one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this season, and they are expected to be a major contender for the title this season.
New York currently sits third in the East standings with a 37-18 record. They have cruised through the NBA season thus far and currently look like the third-best team in the East behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.
Of course, the Knicks also had a great regular season last year, but injuries held them back in the playoffs as they were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in the second round in seven games.
The Knicks then upgraded their roster in the offseason by acquiring two star players. They landed Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves as well as Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets, upgrading their starting rotation.
With the Knicks now having a dominant starting lineup that features Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Bridges and Towns, they are clearly a good enough team to come out of the East this season, but ESPN’s Brian Windhorst does not believe their success from the regular season will carry over into the playoffs.
“I’m not staying up nights worrying about the Knicks,” Windhorst said about a potential matchup between the Knicks and Cavaliers in the playoffs. “Their team screams to me great regular season team.”
This is a bold statement from Windhorst, but one that does make sense. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has been criticized over the past few seasons for the number of minutes he makes his starters play during the regular season.
That has continued into this season as Bridges, Hart and Brunson all rank in the top five in minutes played this season. This cost the Knicks last season in the playoffs as they were bounced out in the second round by the Pacers after multiple of their players dealt with injuries.
New York hopes that their luck can turn around this season, but if they once again suffer an early exit in the playoffs, Windhorst may be right about them being a regular season team.
